BEFORE THERE WAS A BRAND

A Labour of Love
Every jar of our handmade chilli oil is a labour of love, inspired by generations of Malaysian-Chinese home cooking. We source high-quality ingredients, where each batch is made with care and every batch is taste-tested to perfection. From our kitchen to your table, we're committed to bringing you the taste of tradition with an artisanal touch.
It all begins with our roots. My grandmother, also known as popo, grew up on a chilli farm in Malaysia, where some form of chilli oil or sambal was always on the table. That tradition travelled with our family, showing up in every kitchen and every meal. Mama Yu is our way of bottling that feeling and sharing it with you.
We started small - a tiny online drop in 2022, just a handful of jars - it sold out in minutes. That's when we knew this was something worth going all in on. Today, every batch is still made the same way: by hand, in small batches, with the same care and the same recipes that have been passed down through our family for generations.
Love, Xien and Mama

MOTHER · DAUGHTER · BUSINESS PARTNERS
Still these two.
Mama makes the chilli oil. Xien brings “one tiny idea.” Then come the late shifts, tasting spoons, market tables, labels, boxes and the familiar jokes that make the work theirs.
“It still feels surreal to be building this with my mum—my bestie and partner in crime.”— Xien
